Neil R. Brett, PhD

Dr. Neil Brett is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Nutrition at Ryerson University. Neil received his PhD from the School of Human Nutrition at McGill University and currently has > 10 manuscripts either published or in press, and > 25 abstracts presented at national and international conferences. His PhD research looked at how vitamin D interventions in children affected vitamin D status as well as bone, muscle and immune health. During his PhD he received multiple awards including: The American Society for Nutrition’s Clinical Emerging Leader Award (2017) and Young Investigator Awards from The International Conference on Children’s Bone Health (2017) and The Canadian Musculoskeletal Conference (2016). Neil’s PhD research has already impacted national policy by contributing to updating Canada’s vitamin D food fortification policies.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, Neil is overseeing multiple clinical studies that focus on the impact of food and nutrients on appetite, energy balance and cognition in children and adults. This work is designed to inform future nutrition and health recommendations in an effort to improve health and wellbeing across the lifespan.
